THE BRUNCH CLUB
(short film)
|
MIZKAST were incredibly lucky to receive some funding from the iWill Fund from Leeds Community Foundation. We were given the funding to work with the SOUND LGBTQIA+ group in Bradford to create a short film based on issues about LGBTQIA+ themes.
Many sessions were spent consulting with the group about LGBTQIA+ issues and ideas around identity and the group provided information from their own experience and the experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community. While discussing films, it was decided by the young people that the group would work at creating a short film based on the famous 1980's film, 'The Breakfast Club', working on the similar theme of young people meeting in a detention environment, forced together to discuss themselves, their identities and insecurities. Many sessions were spent developing characters and writing the script, rehearsing and role playing until it was time to finally create the film. Bradford College offered up their building to us for the filming, which provided an excellent and realistic environment for the scenes. After the film was completed and edited, a presentation of the work was showcased at SORM Studios in Bradford. The project provided a space for young people to discuss their own themes and to look at creative ways to explore these issues. Every element of the film making process was led by the group of young people, who worked incredibly hard and showed an incredible commitment and talent. Many of the young people who took part in this project continued with us to take part in future projects with us. |
