"MIZKAST has been brilliant for my own artistic practice and my general personality. The constant support and aid of other artists around me inspired me to work harder. Some days it felt like I wasn't good enough to be there, but the people around me would always support me and help me see my true potential. We were given creative freedom, but we often had a brief; for example a technique or media to use, which helped me to learn to work outside of the box. Above all, the project helped me to meet new people, forcing me to gain confidence and improve my communication skills. I used to be a very anxious and shy person, but being around the Arts workers and my peers really helped me to break out of my shell and it generally made me a brighter and happier person. Having the experience that we were given was life changing and I'm extremely grateful to have been given the chance. I hope the project will continue for years to come and I hope it will inspire other youths like me. I hope I can continue to work with the project and pass my experience on and mentor others"

“It felt exciting to be a part of such a heartfelt project. Musical theatre is something that has always been a part of my life and to get to live out that dream was something I couldn't wait to do. It wasn't all bright lights and costumes though. It was a massive learning curve as there is so much more that goes into putting on a show than you would think. It was really eye opening to see all the hard work that has to happen before you even set foot on stage, but I think that made it all the more satisfying on the night. I felt a real sense of achievement and it has been a project that has changed my life for the better. I now know that there is so much more to performing than standing on a stage and belting out a song. You have to work on your character; think like they would, talk they they would and act like they would. It has made me a better performer overall and it has inspired me to continue with my writing. I hope I get the chance to apply for future projects so I can use everything I have learned from this one.” Garron |
