HotBed
Short Film/Trailer
"Beauty is dead.
We have murdered it.
By doing the one thing it implored us not to do.
We defined it."
Our priorities shift like a changing tide
A tide of pollution and plastic
That is destined to drown.
Decency claws desperately at her throat
Gasping for breath,
But she chokes.
Here is her eulogy...
We live in a world where our love is virtual
Where affection is digital
Where our dearest relationships are defined by a signal.
We yearn for freedom
Yet, we encage ourselves in bars.
How can we progress
When our gender defines our pay
And we are defined by our gender?
Whether we count every calorie
Where our health care is based on an outdated vision of health.
Straight smiles
With pear shaped hips.
Beauty is dead
We have murdered it
By doing the one thing it implored us not to do
We defined it.
We created barriers
Barriers against ourselves
Excluding ourselves
Because we do not fit the mould.
We idolise the brain dead
Make Gods of the unworthy
We allow them to set standards
That we could not possibly ever achieve.
We preach forgiveness
Yet for those who have made mistakes
We offer no pardon.
We take them at their misguided words and damn them.
With a culture that cancels and excludes,
Exclusion has become the new Inclusion.

Project Concept
The piece of writing (above) which HotBed is based upon, was written in direct response to conversations our creative team had in many online meetings over the lockdown period. These conversations focused on discussing issues which we felt negatively impact LGBTQIA+ young people today, issues which harm and continue to oppress the LGBTQIA+ community, creating barriers to individuality and societal acceptance. Issues such as fat shaming, gender stereotyping, the negative influence of social media and advertising, the stereotyping of LGBTQIA+ identities, beauty standards, perfectionism and the adverse effects these issues have on mental health and marginalisation.
"Exclusion
has become the new
inclusion."
Viewing of the film will be available soon.
