TO REALISE THE CHANGE THEY ARE ASPIRING FOR, YOUNG PEOPLE MUST TAKE THE LEAD, BE CHANGE AGENTS AND BRING ABOUT CHANGE FOR THEMSELVES AND SOCIETY. FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, YOUNG PEOPLE'S POTENTIAL MUST BE IDENTIFIED, UNLEASHED AND NURTURED.
|
MIZKAST work with young people, aged 16-25, primarily (but not exclusively) from the LGBTQIA+ community within the West Yorkshire district. Our projects allow young people to come together to create challenging and unique pieces of work, which come directly from their own hearts, ideas and experiences and we use a variety of multi media to achieve this. We provide a creative space where stories can be shared and expressed through the Arts, which can then be shared in public spaces to audience members through unique events, happenings and experiences. Our provision is project based and we create a space for young people who do not fit into mainstream provision, have long term disabilities, are NEET or face barriers to learning and employment and we offer an alternative educational experience, which includes volunteer, training opportunities and 1-1 mentorship. |
DEVELOPING
|
We want young people to thrive, flourish and grow as young artists through the services we provide. For young people to have their own place in society and to be able to carve a place for themselves within the creative sector, which they themselves can own; educating and empowering themselves, each other and the wider community. We strive through our work to empower young people and young artists to such an extent that they can influence younger generations, to change lives and to help break the cycle of self harm,
self-hatred and hopelessness. Volunteer opportunities allow participants to experience the real world within Community Arts and allow them to work with professional artists as assistants and volunteers. |
|
MIZKAST is an Arts organisation that has been created by young people, for young people. Every element of our development has been in consultation with young people who have shared ideas about the type of Art they want to create and the themes they want to create the work about. Young people are committee members, directors and leaders of the organisation and are at the heart of every decision making element, acting as ambassadors for themselves and the next generation.
MIZKAST belongs to its young artists and each piece of creative work is always produced entirely by the group themselves, representing their own stories and experiences, hopes and desires. |
REPRESENTING
|
We aim to ensure that disengaged young people have the opportunity to engage in high quality Arts provision and that all identities are represented. We want young people to find through the Arts, a sense of community, belonging, self respect, achievement and to have the opportunity to experience a sense of transformation with true agency and without oppression.
MIZKAST creates Art to celebrate diversity and difference, predominantly working with those who do not fit into the mainstream due to conditions such as neurodivergence and mental health. We recognise that one size does not fit everyone and we consistently look at different ways of working which allow participants to create in their own way, at their own pace, using their own unique voices and talents. |
